About Valley Strength and Fitness

Hi I’m Ryan Achenbach. I am a personal trainer serving in Portland, Milwaukie, Oregon City, Clackamas and Happy Valley. I am a certified drug free state and national  powerlifting record holder.  In additional, I’ve been a personal trainer for over 10 years and have serviced over 10,000 personal training sessions as the owner of Valley Strength and Fitness. 

Athletic & Training Background

From a young age I played basketball, baseball, football and wrestled. School Sports ended for me, when I took up bodybuilding at the age of 12, and earned sponsorship at age 15. Since that time I have experimented with many different styles/methods of lifting from bands, to kettle bells to power lifting and find value in them all. For the last year I have been training and competing as a powerlifter. 

Out of high school I started working at some of the different corporate gyms, finally working my way up to personal trainer.  But at 19-20 years old, I wasn’t mature enough to be a trainer.  I loved the working out aspect, but wasn’t ready to handle everything it truly tkes to be a good trainer.  After a few years I left the training world and managed a warehouse. I was making good money doing that, but at the end of the day I was feeling very unfulfilled.  During that time I was rehabilitating a rotator cuff tear suffered from weightlifting and MMA fighting.  Getting treatment for chronic pain was pricelss and it was during that time I decided I wanted to become a Physical Therapy assistant.  I went back to school and started the PTA program.  During that time I picked training back up because it allowed me to make my own schedule around school. After years of school and personal training, my training started to take off and was making more than the median income of a PTA.  I found personal training very reward, being able to help those with chronic pain, injuries and achieving weight loss goals.

Current Role

For the last 8 years I have worked with men and women in all walks of life and skill levels, as a personal trainer I believe that everyone can reach their goals they have in mind, as long as they are willing to go the extra mile to get there.
Whether it be weight loss, increased muscle mass, or  improved records in their sport, I will help get you there! I love watching the progress of my clients as they close the gap on their set fitness goals.
