For those who don’t know: Benching with an arch is commonly used by many powerlifters because it allows to safely lift the most amount of weight possible. Arching allows one to retract the scapula(known as “packing the shoulders”) more to create a stronger base, it puts less stress on the shoulders, allows for more glute activation, and leg drive.
Why do people arch their back when benching?
